Review: 'Forever'

Based on the headline, you might think that this will be a headline of the new Amazon series "Forever," but you would be wrong. A review would imply that I could discuss the show at some level of depth or talk about the premise or some of the aspects of the series that I thought worked or missed the mark.

While I have had a chance to see "Forever" ahead of its premiere on September 14, the episodes came with a long list of items creators Alan Yang ("Master of None") and Matt Hubbard ("Parks and Recreation") would prefer reviewers not reveal ahead of time. And that list pretty much covers everything a reviewer might want to mention that help viewers decide whether the series is worth watching.

Here's what I can tell you. Maya Rudolph and Fred Armisen play June and Oscar, a couple in Riverside, California, who’ve been married 15 years. A bit of lethargy has set into the marriage and it's fair to say that June starts to go a bit stir crazy. And some things happen. I can't really say what happens or talk about the ramifications. Some of the episodes work better than others and overall Rudolph seems to have a better grasp of her character than Armisen.

The end.

Sorry. That's all I can say.

So should you watch "Forever"? I would say yes. At least dive into a couple of episodes and that will give you a pretty accurate sense of what to expect in the rest of the season. The show does go in some unexpected directions and I look forward to being able to post a real review when the season premieres on Friday.
