Vudu, MGM To Reboot 'Mr. Mom' As Streaming Series

On Tuesday, the Walmart-owned streaming platform Vudu announced it had signed a deal with MGM, which will include rebooting some of that studio's familiar intellectual property as short-form scripted content. The programs would be included on Vudu's advertising-supported video-on-demand platform Movies On Us.

At the NewFrontsWest presentation on Wednesday, the two companies revealed the first project of the deal would be a reworking of the 1980s film "Mr. Mom." Written by John Hughes, the film starred Michael Keaton man who becomes overwhelmed after he loses his job and becomes a stay-at-home dad. Teri Garr played his wife, who became the money earner of the family while facing her own struggles in the workplace.

The new short-form series will be a continuation of the story of Megan, a baby in the original movie who is now grown and entering the workforce for the first time when her husband loses his job.

No premiere date or other information was released about the series.
