Patrick Stewart Signs On For New 'Star Trek' Series On CBS All-Access

After months of rumors that he might be considering a return to the Star Trek universe, actor Patrick Stewart announced on Saturday that he has signed on to once again star as Captain Jon-Luc Picard in a new series that will run on the CBS All Access streaming service.

Stewart made the announcement during a surprise appearance at a Star Trek convention in Las Vegas. He said the series is not a reboot of "Star Trek: The Next Generation," but will instead follow Picard's post-Enterprise career. He also issued the following statement:



Joining Stewart as exec producers on the new untitled Star Trek series are Alex Kurtzman, James Duff, Akiva Goldsman, Michael Chabon, Kurtzman's Secret Hideout president Heather Kadin, Rod Roddenberry, the son of Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry and the CEO of Roddenberry Entertainment and Trevor Roth.

No word yet in when production on the series might begin or when it is expected to premiere.
