PlayStation 3 Adds Redbox Instant App

A Redbox Instant by Verizon application is now available for the Sony PlayStation 3 console. The service had previously been available on Roku, Xbox 360, Android and iOS devices, Samsung Smart TV and Internet Connected Blu-ray devices, LG Smart TV's, and Google TV.

Sony and Verizon developed a recommendation feature for the PS3 called The Playlist, which provides a curated collection of available movies. The Playlist will be featured on the PS3's main dashboard.

Redbox Instant currently costs $8 per month for DVDs, $9 for Blu-Ray titles. Subscribers can rent a movie at any Redbox kiosk and keep the disk for four days instead of one. Movies can also be streamed instantly.

It's not clear yet whether Redbox Instant will be available on the forthcoming PlayStation 4 console.
