Super Deluxe Sets Nov. 2 Release For 'The Passage'

The Philip Burgers short 'The Passage' is set to be released on the streaming service Filmstruck on Friday, November 2nd. The short film, which has won at six film festivals since premiering at Sundance, follows Phil on a series of misadventures that explore the longing for human connection, especially among immigrant cultures.

Through a comedic lens, The Passage explores the longing for human connection, immigrant cultures, the spirit of optimism despite inevitable failure, and the tragedy of never being able to find peace.

In The Passage, Burgers never speaks on camera. Instead, he employs his theatrical clown school education, which is about physical performance and emotive expression. Think Steve Martin, not red nose.

Although the people around him speak, they do so in foreign languages and it’s purposeful that there are no subtitles. This encourages the audience to be on the journey with Phil, giving them the opportunity to be fixated on his every move, expression and effort to communicate with people whose languages he doesn’t understand.

The Passage premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and won Best Short Fiction at the LA Film Festival and Best Comedy at Aspen Shortsfest, both Oscar-qualifying film festivals.

It’s also won the Grand Jury Prize at the Nashville Film Festival, Best Late-Night at SeriesFest, Best Picture in the Shorts with Legs category at Fantastic Fest, and Best Director for Comedy at the New York Television Festival.

Additionally, The Passage has been an official selection at the Seattle International Film Festival and Palm Springs ShortFest, among others. It will screen next at the Philadelphia Film Festival on October 18-28 and the Savannah Film Festival on October 27-November 3.
