Sling TV Adds NBCU Networks, Splits Into 'Orange' & 'Blue' Tiers

Dish Network-owned Sling TV announced on Thursday that it has added a number of NBC Universal networks to it lineup . It is also now officially offering two different programming packages and has added additional networks to its $5 per month "Extra" packages.

Sling TV now offer what it calls "Sling Orange" and "Sling Blue" programming packages. Orange is its original programming configuration, and it costs $20 per month. This package is limited to a single stream and includes Disney-owned ESPN, ESPN2, Freeform and the Disney Channel, along with about 20 other networks. BBC America is also now available as part of the core package.

The "Sling Blue" package is a multi-stream offering that the company had previously described as is "Beta" service. Blue doesn't include the Disney-owned channels, but includes all the other channels in the Orange package. It also includes a national Fox Feed, FX, FXX, Fox Sports 1 & 2 as well as National Geographic and National Geographic Wild. This new NBCU deal adds local NBC (for select markets) along with USA, Bravo, NBCSN and Syfy. This package costs $25 per month, but customers who had previously subscribed to the Beta programming package will be able to get it for $20 a month.

Sling TV also offers a combined "Blue" and "Orange" package for $40.

There have also been some additions to the Sling Orange and Blue Extra Packs. Those programming packages cost an additional $5 per month and are organized in loose themed lineups.

Sling Blue Extra Pack Changes:
* Sports Extra (New Extra Pack) – Golf Channel joins beIN Sports, Outside TV and Univision Deportes

* Lifestyle Plus Extra – E!, Oxygen and Vibrant TV join VH1, Cooking Channel, DIY, FYI, WE tv and LMN

* World News Extra – BBC World News, CNBC and MSNBC join HLN, euronews, France 24, News18, NDTV 24/7 and RT Network

* Best of Spanish TV – NBCUniverso joins 24 other Spanish and bilingual channels

This latest update of Sling TV's programming options leaves the Discovery Networks as the only major TV network group that has yet to make a deal with the company. A package of Discovery channels is available on Playstation Vue's Core Slim and Elite Slim packages (costing $34.99 and $44.99 per month). There continue to be rumors that Discovery is preparing to launch its own OTT service in the United States, but that has not yet been officially confirmed.

As for broadcast TV network signals, Sling TV's offerings are mixed. Fox and some NBC affiliates are available on its Blue programming tier. A national ABC feed is also available for $5. CBS is confining its live affiliate feeds to its CBS All-Access OTT service and The CW is currently unavailable as part of any OTT service.
