Sometimes you have to be patient to get a show into production, but 15 years is a long time for any production team. Especially one that includes Ben Affleck and Matt Damon. But their reality series The Runner is now set to premiere on the mobile network Go90 on July 1st.
In the series, one contestant will attempt to cross the United States in 30 days without getting caught by his fellow participants. If successful, the contestant wins a cash prize. But he or she will have to dodge not just other contestants, but viewers who will be able to follow the daily episodes on the Go90 app. Viewers will also have the opportunity to decide clues that will point them to the current location of the contestant. If a viewer tracks down the contestant, they'll have the chance to win a cash prize of their own.
The Runner was originally set to air on ABC in 2001, but the network canceled the series before it went into production following 9/11.
In some ways, the delay has helped make the show much more ambitious. GPS technology is lightyears beyond what it was in 2001 and the idea is a much better fit for a mobile-only network than a traditional broadcast outlet.
