HBO Programs Coming To Amazon Prime

Amazon
A wide range of HBO programs are coming to Amazon's Prime streaming service, in a new content deal that was announced on Wednesday. The deal will also bring HBO GO to the new Amazon Fire box.

The HBO programs will begin appearing on Amazon Prime on May 21 and will roll out throughout the course of the multi-year deal. Complete seasons of the shows will be included, premiering on Prime approximately three years after their HBO airdate.

"HBO has produced some of the most groundbreaking, beloved and award-winning shows in television history, with more than 115 Emmys amongst the assortment of shows coming to Prime members next month," said Brad Beale, Director of Content Acquisition for Amazon said in a statement announcing the deal. "HBO original content is some of the most-popular across Amazon Instant Video--our customers love watching these shows. Now Prime members can enjoy a collection of great HBO shows on an unlimited basis, at no additional cost to their Prime membership."

"Amazon has built a wonderful service--we are excited to have our programming made available to their vast customer base and believe the exposure will create new HBO subscribers," said Charles Schreger, President of Programming Sales for HBO.

"As owners of our original programming, we have always sought to capitalize on that investment. Given our longstanding relationship with Amazon, we couldn't think of a better partner to entrust with this valuable collection," said Glenn Whitehead, Executive Vice President of Business and Legal Affairs, who along with Schreger headed up HBO's negotiating team. "We're also excited to bring HBO GO to Amazon's Fire TV. The features like unified voice search will provide a compelling experience for HBO customers."

The following shows will premiere May 21:

* Complete runs of "The Sopranos," "Deadwood," "The Wire," "Six Feet Under," "Enlightened," "Flight Of The Conchords," "Rome" and "Eastbound & Down."

* Selected seasons of "True Blood," "Treme" and "Boardwalk Empire."

* Original miniseries, including "The Pacific," "Band Of Brothers," "Parade's End" and "Angels In America."

* Original HBO movies including "Too Big To Fail," "You Don't Know Jack" and "Game Change."

* Documentaries such as" Ghosts of Abu Ghraib" and "When The Levees Break"

A number of HBO comedy specials, including Ellen Degeneres, Lewis Black, Louis C.K. and Bill Maher.

Later years of the deal will include additional seasons of the above shows, as well as early seasons of "Girls," "The Newsroom" and "Veep".

One show notably not included as part of the deal is "Game Of Thrones."
