Sara Gilbert On 'Roseanne' Cancellation: 'I Stand Behind The Decision ABC Made' (With Video)

Actress and producer Sara Gilbert returned to her duties as one of the hosts on the CBS daytime daily roundtable series "The Talk" and she immediately discussed her feelings about last week's cancellation of "Roseanne" following a racist tweet sent out by the series namesake Roseanne Barr. Gilbert not only plays Darlene Connor on "Roseanne," but she is a producer as well as the person who assembled to rest of the cast for the eight episode reboot.

Gilbert didn't shy away from the controversy, telling her co-hosts on "The Talk" that “I would like to say this has been a very difficult week. A lot of people have been hurt by this. I will say I’m proud of the show we made. The show has always been about diversity, love and inclusion, and it’s sad to see it end in this way. I’m sad for the people who lost their jobs in the process. However, I do stand behind the decision that ABC made."

One thing Gilbert didn't address were the rumors that ABC is negotiating with the show's producers to bring back the series, sans Roseanne Barr. One rumored version might involved centering a new show around Darlene and her children.

Last week, Gilbert had released a statement that called her TV’s mom’s Tuesday-morning outburst "abhorrent," and said the remark does "not reflect the beliefs of our cast and crew or anyone associated with our show. I am disappointed in her actions to say the least." That statement prompted Roseanne to tweet that she was "disappointed" in Gilbert's response and expressed her wish the two former co-stars could have discussed the issue privately.
