Demi Lovato Pulls Most Of Her Catalog From Spotify

Demi Lovato
If you're a Spotify user and a fan of Demi Lovato, you probably were a bit annoyed this week to discover that a great portion of her catalog has been pulled from the streaming music service.

For instance, her most recent CD was previously available in full, including her big hit "Give Your Heart A Break." But as of this week, all but four tracks are missing and what's left are deeper album tracks.

It's the same situation for her older albums, all of which have been removed from Spotify except for several select tracks.

It's becoming increasingly typical for an artist to window their new release by giving it to paid download services such as iTunes first and then rolling it out to streaming services later as interest in the release begins to wane.

It's not so common for an artist to pull most of their tracks months after they were first released. But in the case of Lovato, I suspect it's a reaction to the singer's difficulty in launching a strong follow-up to the massive worldwide success of "Give Your Heart A Break." The prevailing theory would be that users looking for her hit would find the new single "Heart Attack" and give that a shot instead.

The flipside of that theory is the possibility that casual listeners would listen to all the tracks from her previous releases and find something they really liked. An opportunity they won't have for now.
