TV Overnight: Your TV Talking Points For Monday, April 16th

Here's everything you need to know about the world of television on Monday, April 16th, 2018. I'm writing this from the Twin Cities, where AllYourScreens HQ is digging out from more than a foot of snow over the weekend.

R.I.P. R LEE ERMEY

R. Lee Ermey, a Golden Globe-nominated actor best known for his role as Gunnery Sgt. Hartman in Stanley Kubrick's "Full Metal Jacket," died Sunday morning from complications of pneumonia. He was 74. The news was announced via his official twitter account by his longtime manager, Bill Rogin, who wrote: "It is with deep sadness that I regret to inform you all that R. Lee Ermey ("The Gunny") passed away this morning from complications of pneumonia. He will be greatly missed by all of us. Semper Fi, Gunny. Godspeed."

WHAT'S NEW ON TV TONIGHT:
1) The CW's "Supergirl" returns with its spring premiere
In the episode entitled "Schott Through the Heart," when Winn’s (Jeremy Jordan) father dies, his estranged mother, Mary (guest star Laurie Metcalf), reappears trying to reconnect and to explain why she abandoned him all those years ago. Winn is too embittered from his rough childhood to forgive her but when a copycat Toyman attacks, the two must work together to stop him. Mon-El (Chris Wood) tells Kara (Melissa Benoist) something important about the Worldkillers, and Alex (Chyler Leigh) becomes suspicious of Myr’nn’s (guest star Carl Lumbly) recent behavior.

2) It's the season four finale of the CBS "smart people solve crimes" procedural "Scorpion."
In the episode entitled "A Lie in the Sand," Team Scorpion heads to Northeast Africa where they must carefully navigate a minefield in order to save the lives of local villagers. Also, Paige and Walter's relationship takes a shocking turn, and Toby and Happy make an important decision.

3) Natalie Wood: An American Murder Mystery (Investigation Discovery)
In the early morning hours of November 29, 1981, Hollywood star, Natalie Wood vanishes from the yacht of her actor husband, Robert Wagner, into the open waters off Catalina Island. Hours later, a search party finds Wood’s body floating outside of a cavern with the cause of death then declared to be, drowning. Police spring into action but have little information about the moments before she disappeared. What happened to one of Hollywood's most famous rising stars? Investigation Discovery (ID) explores fact versus fiction with this world premiere special.

4) I Am Evidence (HBO)
Despite the power of DNA to solve crimes, hundreds of thousands of rape kits, containing crucial DNA evidence, are currently languishing untested in police-evidence storage rooms across the country. Behind each one of these kits is a sexual-assault survivor waiting for justice to be served, and a perpetrator potentially evading prosecution. Produced by Mariska Hargitay and directed by Trish Adlesic and Geeta Gandbhir, this special exposes the alarming trend of unsolved rape cases, revealing how a flawed system has historically mistreated sexual assault survivors and showing how victims, advocates and some forward-thinking law enforcement officials are challenging the status quo.

5) It Was Him: The Many Murders Of Ed Edwards (Paramount)
Detective John Cameron investigates convicted serial killer Ed Edwards and uncovers evidence connecting Edwards to some of the most famous murder cases of the last 60 years.

NEWS TO WATCH TODAY:
1) Netflix Earnings
Earning for the streaming media giant will be announced after the close of the stock market on Monday. Analysts will be looking at international subscriber growth numbers. Ahead of the announcement, Netflix has been forecasting 6.35 million net subscriber additions, 1.45 million from the U.S. and 4.9 million internationally. But it'll be interesting to see if some other questions are addressed by executives during the earnings conference call, including whether there is a ceiling on spending for content, future plans for cable companies bundling Netflix in their packages and the company's thoughts on the movie industry's attempts to push-back against made-for-Netflix movies.

2) The Pulitzers Are Announced
This year's Pulitzer Award winners will be announced in the The World Room at the Columbia School of Journalism in New York City at 3:00 p.m. ET.
