Oliver Queen (series star Stephen Amell) may not arrive on television screens until October 10 in the hard-hitting new action series "Arrow" (Wednesdays 8/7c The CW), but today fans at Comic-Con learned the identity of one of the show’s upcoming villains: China White. During the Arrow panel session in Ballroom 20, executive producers Marc Guggenheim, Andrew Kreisberg and David Nutter revealed that Kelly Hu (X2: X-Men United, The Vampire Diaries) will guest star in the role in an upcoming episode of the highly anticipated drama (airdate to be announced).
The character of China White — a South Pacific drug cartel leader who Oliver Queen encounters during his five years marooned on a remote island — first appeared in the Green Arrow: Year One origin series graphic novels by Andy Diggle and Jock, published by DC Comics
Hu previously appeared in a multiple episodes throughout the first three seasons of The Vampire Diaries, guest starring as Pearl, a vampire friend of Katherine Pierce (series star Nina Dobrev)
No stranger to the DC Universe, Hu has voiced several characters — including Cheshire and Paula Crock — on the animated series Young Justice, produced by Warner Bros. Animation and airing Saturdays 10:30 a.m. ET/PT as part of Cartoon Network’s DC Nation block
Based upon characters appearing in comic books and graphic novels published by DC Comics, the new TV series Arrow is executive produced by Greg Berlanti, Guggenheim and Kreisberg. Nutter directed and served as executive producer of the pilot. Melissa Kellner Berman is co-executive producer. The series is from Bonanza Productions Inc. in association with Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television.
