Synopsis: Luis (Luis Guzman) is an opinionated all-American Puerto Rican who rules his building like a castle and his neighborhood like he’s the de facto mayor. He’s living the American dream as the proud owner of a Spanish Harlem donut shop and the building’s landlord. But his dream is rudely disturbed on a regular basis … By corrupt cops shaking him down for free donuts. By a Chinese food delivery guy who swears he was a cardiologist back in the "Old Country" and doesn’t speak English because "this is America – you speak Spanish." By an obnoxious elderly Irish woman who lives in one of Luis’ rent-controlled apartments. By TK (Malcolm Barrett), a young, African-American con man who harasses Luis’ customers, trying to sell them "merchandise" he found in Luis’ dumpster. And by his assistant Richie (Charlie Day) who pines for Luis’ head-strong daughter Marly (Jaclyn DeSantis).

In addition, Luis’ ex-wife Isabella (Diana-Maria Riva) constantly reminds him why they got divorced, but somehow can’t get enough of him or his donuts. To make matters worse, Marly lives in Luis’ building with her free-loading boyfriend Greg, an "artiste" who hopes to pay his share of the rent by selling his paintings – which doesn’t look like it’s happening anytime soon. Luis is a man who’s got the world figured out - the world just doesn’t know it yet.
