Show Guide: God, The Devil And Bob

This animated half-hour comedy features a stellar cast that includes the voices of Emmy Award winner James Garner (The Rockford Files) as God, Tony Award winner Alan Cumming ("Cabaret") as the Devil, and French Stewart (3rd Rock from the Sun) as Bob.

In addition, Emmy Award winner Laurie Metcalf (Roseanne) plays Bob's wife, Donna; Emmy Award winner Nancy Cartwright (Bart Simpson on The Simpsons) voices the role of Bob's rebellious teenage daughter, Megan; and Kath Soucie ("Rugrats, the Movie") provides the voice of Bob's lovable six-year-old son, Andy.

God, the Devil and Bob focuses on the modern-day problems of an ordinary 32-year-old Detroit auto worker, Bob Alman, who has been hand-picked by the Devil, in a deal with God, to prove that mankind is worth saving. Thus, as Bob copes with the daily stress of work and family, he must also wage a constant battle between good and evil.

To complicate matters, only Bob and his young son, Andy, can actually see God and the Devil, so none of his family or friends believe that he is now a "messenger of God." This simple premise leads to numerous conflicts for Bob, who also happens to be riddled with human flaws. Bob likes to drink, party and visit strip clubs with his buddies at the auto plant, including his best friend, Mike (Chi McBride, The John Larroquette Show). In addition, he has a weakness for big-screen TV, the Detroit Red Wings and Red Shoe Diaries.

To make matters worse, he is easily influenced by the Devil and his faithful henchman, Smeck (Jeff Doucette, Weird Science), who appear to Bob at the most inopportune moments and in a variety of guises designed to lure Bob into temptation.

Meanwhile, as Bob tries to adjust to his new role as mankind's savior, his wife, Donna, must juggle her family responsibilities while trying to further her education. And his 13-year-old daughter, Megan, teetering unsteadily between child- and adulthood, is not particularly pleased to have a prophet for a father.
