Synopsis: George Lopez, the hilarious family comedy starring
popular standup comedian George Lopez, moves to Fridays (8:00-8:30 p.m.,
ET), to kick off ABC's all new TGIF lineup. The series is from Bruce
Helford, Deborah Oppenheimer and Robert Borden - all from ABC's long-running
hit comedy series, "The Drew Carey Show" - and actress/producer Sandra
Bullock ("Speed," "Divine Secrets of the YaYa Sisterhood").
George Lopez is a guy whose life has become much more complicated since
he became the first assembly line worker to be promoted to plant manager
at a L.A. airplane parts factory. Though his affable friend, Ernie (Valente
Rodriguez, "Erin Brockovich"), and former compadres rib him about becoming
"Mr. Clipboard," they still like him -- they just have to have their
fun behind his back now. Managing his tough and acerbic but loving mother,
Benny (Belita Moreno, "Perfect Strangers"), while sifting through her
vast assortment of lies about his childhood, and maintaining a civil
relationship presents a whole new kind of challenge, both at work and
at home.
Fortunately George's devoted wife, Angie (Constance Marie, "American
Family," "Union Square"), possesses the patience of a saint and copes
surprisingly well with Benny's questionable past and insensitive wisecracks,
and with George's freewheeling approach to parenthood. Her newfound
success as a cosmetics salesperson and her passion for lost causes tries
George's patience, but in the end makes him love and rely upon her that
much more.
George and Angie's nine-year-old son, Max (Luis Armand Garcia), is
a dyslexic, sports-loving, constantly curious ball of energy, while
their bright 15-year-old daughter, Carmen (Masiela Lusha), struggles
with self esteem problems as well as the trials, tribulations and peer
pressure of being a teenage high school girl. (courtesy ABC, 2003)
