Show Guide: The Fugitive

Synopsis: Updating the classic 1960's action series with the thrills and high-tech style of the 1990's Oscar-nominated hit movie, The Fugitive returns to television with the riveting tale of Dr. Richard Kimble (Tim Daly), an innocent man accused of murdering his beloved wife.

Adrift in a sea of strangers in strange locations, Kimble, on the hunt for the one-armed man who actually committed the crime, desperately tries to avoid being captured by Lt. Philip Gerard (Mykelti Williamson), who always seems to be only two steps behind.

From week to week, Kimble searches city after city for the elusive killer whose capture would finally allow him to prove his innocence and return to his former life. In constant flight in his quest for justice, Kimble touches many lives, but the encounters are ended as suddenly as they have begun when the fugitive is forced to escape to yet another city.

And the actors of The Fugitive will be hopping as much as their characters. The show's production will travel the country, unanchored to any one location -- a television feat, according to star Tim Daly, not attempted since the early-'60s show Route '66. Said Daly, in an exclusive CBS.com interview, "Our personal lives are ruined."

For costar Williamson, however, the opportunity to do the show is worth all the frequent flying -- especially considering that he wouldn't have won the role had the show's producers stuck by the color code of the previous "Fugitives". In the show's previous incarnations, the role of Gerard was played by white men. Williamson explains that the producers of the show didn't cast an African American in the role by accident.

"It was a conscious decision," Williamson told CBS.com. "It’s a decision that I’m very happy with. It’s a role I love. And I’m going to enjoy chasing this man. There are certain cultural differences between us, and when you see us trying to out-think one another from a black man’s perspective and a white man’s perspective, you’re going to see a lot of interesting things happening."

Daly added, "I think you’re going to see differences, but also a great many similarities. And I want to add that I know there’s been a lot of talk in the media about shows representing minorities in greater numbers. I do not believe that that had anything to do with this decision. I think that this was a really smart, fresh interesting choice and they have a hell of an actor to fit the bill in Mykelti. So I think it will be one of the things that will make the whole show seem new."

That's assuming the actors survive the shoot. The duo will do some of their own stunts. "Well, that's kind of boring to talk about," jokes Daly. "You know, you pull a muscle here, you twist an ankle there."

So is Daly actually saying that in shooting the pilot alone, he's already been injured? "It's possible to hurt yourself," the actor replied. "Let's put it that way."
