| Synopsis: Breaking away from local
racial attitudes in a small town in FLorida isn't easy, so it's not unusual
that two families who have been neighbors for years continue to keep their
social distance. But when a surprising catalyst brings these families
together, they find they have more in common--and more to share. Set in present day rural Florida, "The Sweetest Gift" revolves around the Martin and Wilson families. Mom Martin (Helen Shaver), is a single mother of three who works seven days a week trying to make ends meet. Mrs. Wilson (Diahann Carroll), is the matriarch of a proud family who've endured more than their share of life's challenges. It is the farm animals, children and grandchildren who ultimately bring these two strong and independent women together.
