| Synopsis: To honor legendary Bob
Hope's 100th birthday, NBC with pay tribute to his remarkable life as
a patriot, humanitarian and as one of the most beloved entertainers of
the 20th century when Jane Pauley ("Dateline NBC") hosts a special
star-studded centennial celebration, "100 Years of Hope & Humor,"
on Sunday, April 20th, 2003 (7-9 p.m. ET).
The special tribute to the true American icon will include footage
from Hope's life that includes 11 United States presidents, his association
with golf and other sports, his work with the USO, and vaudeville, film
and television performances.
Guests who appear to pay homage and share anecdotes include Alan Alda,
Woody Allen, Sean Astin, Mel Brooks, Drew Carey, Michael Chiklis, Bob
Costas, Phyllis Diller, Harvey Fierstein, Brad Garrett, Kelsey Grammer,
Dennis Haysbert, Allison Janney, Jack Jones, Alan King, Michele Lee,
Jay Leno, Bernie Mac, Steve Martin, Eric McCormack, Jack Nicklaus, Conan
O'Brien, Arnold Palmer, Don Rickles, LeAnn Rimes, Joan Rivers, Ray Romano,
Jane Russell, Brooke Shields, Martin Short, John Spencer, Lee Trevino,
Steve Valentine, Bruce Vilanch, Barbara Walters, Raquel Welch, Oprah
Winfrey, Tiger Woods and a special tribute from President George W.
Bush.
Bob Hope was born Leslie Townes Hope on May 29, 1903 in Eltham, England,
and was raised in Cleveland, Ohio. He and his wife, Dolores have been
married since February 1934 and have four children and four grandchildren.
Throughout his career Hope has entertained in vaudeville, on Broadway,
radio, motion pictures and television -- not to mention overseas and
at home to millions of U.S. troops since May 1941. Hope's long-running
association with NBC began in 1937 with radio and 1950 in television,
which resulted in 284 top-rated primetime comedy-variety specials.
