Synopsis: Academy Award-winning actress and Hollywood legend
Julie Andrews ("The Princess Diaries," "Mary Poppins," "The Sound of
Music") and ten-year-old actress Sofia Vassilieva ("The Brady Bunch
in the White House") reprise their roles from the popular telefilm,
"Eloise at the Plaza," for "Eloise at Christmastime," a live action
holiday film based on the bestselling illustrated children's books written
by the late Kay Thompson, with illustrations by Hilary Knight. "Eloise
at Christmastime" will air as a presentation of "The Wonderful World
of Disney" on Saturday, November 22nd, 2003 (8:00-10:00 p.m., ET), on
ABC.
Ms. Andrew returns as Nanny, the "rawther" British guardian to Eloise
-- the precocious but lovable six-year-old resident of New York's Plaza
Hotel who endlessly roams the landmark in search of adventure. Along
with her pug dog, Weenie, and turtle, Skipperdee, who eats raisins and
wears sneakers, Eloise is always causing mischief and mayhem, often
dragging a beleaguered Nanny - "my mostly companion" - along for the
ride. Also returning from "Eloise at the Plaza" are four-time Emmy nominee
Jeffrey Tambor ("The Larry Sanders Show," "Pollock") as hotel manager
Mr. Salomone, Emmy Award-winning actress Christine Baranski ("Chicago")
as events planner Prunella Stickler, Emmy Award-winning actress Debra
Monk ("NYPD Blue," "Meredith Willson's The Music Man") as Central Park
horse buggy driver Maggie and Tony Award-nominated actor Gavin Creel
("Thoroughly Modern Millie") as Bill, Eloise's favorite waiter.
It's Christmas time at New York's Plaza Hotel and the season promises
to be even more special as the hotel prepares for a romantic Christmas
Eve wedding! Awaiting the arrival of her mother from Paris, Eloise plants
herself in all of the wedding arrangements, since "getting married on
Christmas Eve is the most romantic thing." Event coordinator Prunella
Stickler, whose impeccable record for spectacular weddings has been
uncontested, warns Eloise not to interfere, as the bride and groom are
none other than Rachel, the daughter of Plaza owner Mr. Peabody, and
her fiancÈ, Brooks Oliver. But when Eloise becomes suspicious of Brooks'
true intentions and discovers that Rachel's old flame, Bill, the Plaza
waiter, still harbors feelings for her, Eloise plays matchmaker to ensure
that true love will save the day! But she'll have to go head to head
with Prunella Stickler first. And "oh my lord," there's so much to do,
as Eloise tries to save long-time Plaza resident Mrs. Thornton from
eviction, help Sir Wilkes find the perfect Christmas present for Nanny
and decorate the Plaza's Christmas tree with just the right amount of
tinsel! With hours away before the big event, Eloise's plans go awry,
as Brooks uncovers her scheme and a wintry snowstorm blankets New York
City, threatening to spoil mother's homecoming. With a lot of love and
a little bit of yuletide luck, the playfully wise Eloise must find a
way out of this predicament and deliver the best Christmas present for
everyone -- one that's from the heart!
