60 Teens Explain Why They Don't Watch TV

If you're over the age of 20 or so, it's probably difficult to appreciate just how little traditional linear television resonates with teens. Oh sure, they will watch a few shows here and there. But their attachment to the medium of television is minimal and for many of them, what seems real and relevant to their lives are the videos they find on places such as YouTube.

Digital content company Defy Media’s research team at Acumen recently interviewed 60 teens and young adults at this year’s annual VidCon in Anaheim. They asked the participants to explain what they found compelling about YouTube. They also were asked to talk about their attitudes about the traditional television business.

Granted, people going to VidCon are going to have a very strong connection to the world of online video. But thier comments still give a lot of insight into why YouTube is such a powerful entertainment option for teens and young adults.
