'Big Bang Theory' Nabs Three-Year Renewal From CBS

Big Bang Theory
Fans of the "The Big Bang Theory" will be able to watch new episodes of the show through at least the 2016-2017 season.

CBS and Warner Brother Television has agreed to a deal which extends the life of the sitcom for three more years. It's the first CBS pick-up for the fall 2014 season and it's not exactly a risky move. The show is the #1 TV comedy for adults 18-49 and reruns on TBS often grab larger ratings than some competing broadcast network shows.

"Comedy is a big part of our schedule, and The Big Bang Theory is the biggest comedy force on television," CBS Entertainment chairman Nina Tassler said in a statement announcing the deal. "This multiyear deal further strengthens our network’s position for future seasons and marks another chapter in the great partnership CBS enjoys with Warner Bros. Television for delivering audiences the best in comedy. We’re proud to work with and showcase the incredible talents of [executive producers] Chuck Lorre, Steve Molaro and this amazing cast every week."

Now that the CBS deal has been finalized, Warner Brothers Television will focus on extending and improving the contracts with the show's stars. Mayim Bialik and Melissa Rauch recently signed new deals with WBTV that gave them a substantial salary bump. According to sources on the show, Jim Parsons, Kaley Cuoco and Johnny Galecki are negotiating together and are seeking an increase from their current $325,000 per episode salary. Simon Helberg and Kunal Nayyar are also seeking an increase and their representatives have been negotiating together as well.
