Season-To-Date, The 'CBS Evening News With Scott Pelley' Is The Only Evening News Broadcast Up From Last Year

The CBS EVENING NEWS WITH SCOTT PELLEY is the only network evening news broadcast to post year-to-year viewership growth, according to Nielsen live plus same day ratings for the week ending Oct. 16.

The CBS EVENING NEWS WITH SCOTT PELLEY is up +3% in viewers (6.65m from 6.44m), adding +210,000 viewers, compared to the same week last year.

The CBS broadcast closed the viewership gap with the NBC by 1.1 million viewers and with ABC by half-a-million viewers compared to the same week last year.

Season-to-date, the CBS EVENING NEWS WITH SCOTT PELLEY is up +6% in viewers (6.80m from 6.42m) and even in adults 25-54 (1.3/05) compared to last year – the only network evening broadcast to post gains from last season.

Editor’s Note: Ratings for the week ending Oct. 16 and the year-ago comparison represent a four-day average (Monday-Wednesday, Friday) as the Thursday broadcast aired under an amended title due to THURSDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL.

On last week’s broadcasts, Jim Axelrod investigated the listeria outbreak at Blue Bell Creameries plant in Brenham, Texas; Debora Patta spoke with the man who led the hunt that killed Cecil the lion; Jonathan Vigliotti reported on Israeli-Palestinian tensions; Nancy Cordes, Major Garrett and Julianna Goldman covered the presidential campaign trail; Carter Evans reported on mudslides on California’s highways; and Steve Hartman went “On the Road” to meet a 94-year-old who still dominates on the ice hockey rink.
