Ratings For U.K. Version Of 'The Taste' Drop 50 Percent In Week Two

While it's wasn't exactly a ratings juggernaut for ABC here in the U.S., ratings for season one of the cooking competition series "The Taste" were strong enough to justify not just a second season, but a version of the show in the U.K. In fact, the U.K. version isn't just inspired by the American original, it also features judges Nigella Lawson, Anthony Bourdain and Ludo Lefebvre, all three of whom appear on the original ABC version.

The show premiered in the U.K. last week and garnered respectable ratings, a 7.5 share and an average audience of 1.8 million. But this week, the show had a stronger competitor, when the drama "Death In Paradise" returned for a third season. It's not clear if that's the entire reason for the ratings drop, but the result was that the U.K. version of "The Taste" saw its ratings drop nearly 50 percent on Tuesday, to a 3.6 share and an average audience of just 861,000.
