"Homicide: Life on the Street," NBC, Fatima Productions

"Nothing Sacred," ABC, Sarabande Productions with 20th Century Fox TV. It was praised for its "honest portrayal of the complexity of faith in the modern era."

"Don King: Only in America," HBO Pictures and the Thomas Carter Company. The tale of the rise of boxing's most famous promoter.

"George Wallace," TNT, a Mark Carliner Production.

"State Farm: Good Neighbor or Bad Faith?" KGO radio, San Francisco. A three-month investigation into insurance companies following disasters.

-"Flood of the Century," KFGO radio, Fargo, N.D., for around-the-clock coverage of a crisis with a significant impact on the community.

"Will the Circle Be Unbroken?" Southern Regional Council, Atlanta, a series of oral histories of the civil rights movement.

"Dietrich Bonhoeffer: The Cost of Freedom," Focus on the Family, Colorado Springs, Colo., a radio drama that tells "an inspiring personal tale of courage and heroism."

"Jazz from Lincoln Center," Murray Street Enterprise, for National Public Radio. A celebration of American jazz "marked by spectacular studio sound technique and interviews."

"Military Medicine," WRAL-TV, Raleigh, N.C., an investigative series that helped bring military medical practitioners in line with national standards.

"The Trial of Pol Pot," ABC News/Nightline, exclusive video by correspondent Nate Thayer in Cambodia with background and context by Ted Koppel and "Nightline" staff.

"Richard Rodriguez Essays on American Life," The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer, PBS.

"The Castro," KQED-TV, San Francisco, a look at San Francisco's Castro District.

"Liberty! The American Revolution," KTCA Twin Cities Public Television, St. Paul, MN, with Middlemarch Films.

"Hello Mr. President," Barraclough Carey Productions for Channel 4, London, and The History Channel, New York. An account of the first 100 days of Lyndon B. Johnson's presidency.

"A Healthy Baby Girl," P.O.V./The American Documentary with the Independent Television Service. A five-year video diary in which filmmaker Judith Helfand documents her battle with cancer. -"Look for Me Here: 299 Days in the Life of Nora Lenihan," New England Cable News, Newton, Mass. Follows a woman facing death and looks at the hospice alternative to traditional care.

"In the Land of the Deaf," Les Films d'Ici, La Sept-Cinema, Centre European Cinematographique Rhone-Alpes, presented on Bravo/The Independent Film Channel.

"Blue Note: A History of Modern Jazz Euroarts Entertainment," OHG & SDR arte with Bravo and Denmark Radio. The story of the jazz record label and its founders.

"Divided Highways: The Interstates and the Transformation of American Life," Florentine Films/Hott Productions and WETA-TV, Washington, D.C.

"The American Experience: The Presidents Series," WGBH-TV, Boston. A series on 20th century presidents.

"The American Experience: Troublesome Creek -A Midwestern," WGBH-TV, Boston. The story of a family's struggle to maintain their farm.

"The Nazis: A Warning from History," BBC, London. Examines the Third Reich using previously unpublished documents and new archival film.

"Body Doubles: The Twin Experience," HBO and Carlton Television with the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. Depicts the life of twins looking at the role of environment and genetics in huma behavior.

"City Arts," Thirteen/WNET, New York. A look at the variety of arts and culture in the New York City area.

"Mobil Masterpiece Theatre: The Tenant of Wildfell Hall," WGBH-TV, Boston, and BBC, London. An adaptation of the Anne Bronte novel about a woman fleeing an abusive husband.

"The Eddie Files," FASE Productions, Los Angeles, for PBS. An educational show for children

"Wishbone," Big Feats! Entertainment for PBS.

"Nickelodeon: The Big Help," Nickelodeon, New York. A public service campaign encouraging children to volunteer.
