show
Nominations
have been announced for THE 37TH ANNUAL ACADEMY OF COUNTRY MUSIC
AWARDS. Winners will receive their awards during a gala special
to be broadcast from the Universal Amphitheatre in Los Angeles,
Wednesday, May 22nd, 2002 (8:00-11:00 PM, live ET/delayed PT)
on CBS .
Brooks And Dunn and Toby Keith received six nominations each, while Alan Jackson, Tim McGraw and Travis Tritt followed with four nominations.
Diamond Rio and Tammy Cochran each received three nominations;
George Jones, Garth Brooks, Trick Pony, Nickel Creek and the O
Brother, Where Art Thou? Soundtrack received two each.
The Home
Depot Humanitarian Award has been added to this year's broadcast.
It will become the first "fan-voted" award in the history of the
ACM Awards. It was created to recognize an artist or group in
the country music industry that is committed to serving others,
has generosity of spirit and a dedication to helping build the
dreams of those in need. A committee of the Academy of Country
Music will select the final three nominees in this category and
country music fans will be able to vote online beginning in April.
The nominees
were announced at a press conference held this afternoon at the
Universal Sheraton in Los Angeles. Among those participating in
the press conference were executive producer Dick Clark and country
music stars JoDee Messina and Cyndi Thompson.
Nominees
and winners of the Academy of Country Music Awards are selected
by members of the Academy of Country Music, which works to enhance
and promote country music throughout the world. Presenters and
performers who will appear on the special will be announced at
a later date.
