Ally McBeal is a show
trying to dodge that sophomore curse. Its first season couldn't
have been more successful, with the Fox drama not only doing well
in the ratings, but making a household name out of Calista
Flockhart and her legs. The producers now have to the task
of keeping the momentum going.
Expect to see
a lot of new faces around the office this season. Portia deRossi
joins the firm as new associate Nelle Porter. She's a successful
litigator and Richard Fish hopes she'll bring new business into
the firm. Nelle is also expected to add a lot of fireworks to
the mix, as she struggles to fit in with Ally, Elaine and Georgia.
Ally in particular thinks that she brings out the dark side of
the firm, but it's difficult to argue with her increasing success.
John Ritter
will appear in 5-6 episodes as Elaine's beau, but he starts to
have eyes for Ally. Other guest stars in the first few episodes
include Tracy Ullman, Jennifer Holiday, Wayne
Newton and David Ogden Stiers.
But with all
of the new faces, some things won't be changing. Ally (Calista
Flockhart) will still be struggling with her romantic life, although
she certainly isn't suffering from a lack of candidates. And there'll
still be plenty of offbeat court cases, smouldering sexual desire
and passionate talk in the firm's unisex bathroom.
In other words,
it's going to be another great season.
